Drop the World

Good God. The world’s been dropped. And I will never be the same.

We always hope for these dream collabos between our favorite rappers and we very rarely get them. Lil’ Wayne and Eminem are, without question, the two hottest and most popular MC’s in the rap game right now. There are Jay-Z lovers out there and people will talk about Kanye West, T.I. and even — gulp — 50 Cent. But when it comes to 2009 rap royalty, it doesn’t get bigger or better than Marshall Mathers and Weezy.

So when I saw these two giants of the rap industry — and, more than that even — my favorite artists of all-time were going to team up for Rebirth, I got excited. I was skeptical, but excited. If this actually happened, it could be a moment for the ages.

The song leaked on Tuesday. And I didn’t believe it was going to be the actual song. How could it be? With Rebirth being pushed back more times than I can even remember, how could the biggest song on the CD get leaked two months before the scheduled release? But it did.

And wow, what a song it is.

It’s not an earth-shattering collabo the way Jay-Z and Eminem’s Renegade was. But what I can say is it’s two of the greatest rappers ever working at their absolute best murdering a beat made for both of them. Weezy’s got the chorus and the first two verses and doesn’t hesitate to murder it in the first verse:

I got ice in my veins, blood in my eyes

Hate in my heart, love in my mind

I see nights full of pain, days are the same

You keep the sunshine, save me the rain

I search but never find, hurt but never cry

I work and forever try, but I’m cursed so nevermind

And it’s worse but better times seem further and beyond

The top gets higher the more that I climb

The spot gets smaller and I get bigger

Tryin to get in where I fit in; no room for a nigga

But soon for a nigga it be on ma’fucka

‘Cause all this bullshit made me strong, ma’fucka

So I’mma pick the world and I’mma drop it on your fuckin’ head!

Obviously, the pressure of rhyming with Eminem has made Weezy F. Baby bring his best stuff and his delivery on this song is as good as it gets. He also provides a thumping chorus that fits perfectly with the space-noise beats in the background.

But, as is so often the case in any Eminem collabo, his verse is the one that sticks out and shines. At the beginning of the verse, the production mixes his voice as he sing songs his way through an intriguing first few bars:

It hurts but I’ll never show, this pain you’ll never know

If only you could see just how lonely and how cold

And how frosbit I’ve become, my back’s against the wall

When push come to shove I just stand up and scream fuck ‘em all

After he drops these pulse-pounding lines, he comes back with a classic. No accent, no gimmicks, just straight up the best of the best ripping a dynamite rhymefest:

Man, it feels like these walls are closin’ in, this roof is cavin’ in

Up, it’s time to raise it, then your tazin’ em like pages in my book of rhymes

Got ‘em cookin, boy, this crooked mind of mine got ‘em all shook

And scared to look in my eyes, I stole that fuckin’ clock I took the time

And I came up from behind this game and snuck up

And buttfucked this game up, better be careful when you bring my name up

Fuck this thing that ain’t what I came to claim

But the game ain’t gonna be the same on the day I leave it

But I swear one way or another I’m gonna make these fuckin haters believe it

I swear to God, won’t spare the rod

I’m a man of my word so your fuckin’ heads better nod

I’mma fuck around in this bitch and roast everybody

Sleep on me that pillow is where your head’s gonna lie permanently bitch, it’s beddie-bye

The world is my Easter Egg, yeah prepare to die

My head is swoll, my confidence is up, the stage is my pedestal

I’m unstoppable, incredible, hope you’re trapped in my medicine ball

I can run circles around you so fast your fuckin’ head will spin, dog

I can split your cabbage and your lettuce and olives

I’ll fuckin’…

And then the chorus hits and Weezy’s explodes back onto the scene.

It’s a perfect collaboration that will stand the test of time without question. If we’re lucky, we might see more Weezy and Em. Maybe on Relapse 2.

Keep your fingers crossed. This is too good.

The 24 Days of Christmas – Day 12

As we all know, Christmas is fast approaching and as we all also know, many of you will be struggling to think of interesting gift ideas for your nearest and dearest. ‘What shall we buy to show our love?!’ we hear you cry. Well, fear not, for we at the Fold know that sometimes, thinking beyond the usual DVD boxsets/smellies/Xbox games can be a little difficult, and so over the course of December we endeavour to bring you a new gift idea each day on the run-up to Christmas, totalling 24, and with each one we shall also bring you an accompanying song that somehow represents the gift in some way. ‘Gift ideas and related entertainment?!’ we hear you now crying! ‘How on Earth do they manage it?!’

Day #12 – Beats Tour In-Ear Headphones

beats

We all need love a bit of music in our lives. Dr Dre says why not make that life a bit more sonic?

Here’s the details.

The Beats Tour in-ear headphones by Dr. Dre boast newly developed speaker technology to reproduce clear natural vocals, detailed highs and deep powerful bass without distortion. Wired with high-performance Monster Cable, they sound superb and are designed to stay completely tangle-free.

Features:

No more knots with tangle-free cable design.

Precision response thanks to low mass, wide bandwidth driver.

Sound-isolating eartips in multiple sizes provide a perfect fit to seal out noise.

Duraflex protective cable jacket for maximum tangle resistance and durability.

MicroStrand conductors to extend frequency response.

Patented magnetic FluxTube for more natural audio reproduction.

24K gold contacts that ensure maximum signal transfer and corrosion resistance.

Rugged protective case for superior protection.

Dre’s Beats Headphone range boasts an army of celebrity endorsements and positive reviews. Dre’s latest offering, the Beat’s Tour In-Ear headphones have a unique ribbon wire that make them impossible to tangle. Saving you precious minutes that could be filled with some rather glorious Aftermath beats – or something with a bit more weight. The price has been bumped up due to the name attached but the sound quality is rivalled only by the high-end audio products.

This is the perfect gift for that peroxide yappy friend of yours or a nice little treat to see you through the winter months.

You can buy them here for £119.95. But I would suggest heading to a certain online auction site where they sell for half the price.

Go pick up a pair, plug them in and press play.

Rolling Stone Decade Ending List

Want to know what Rolling Stone thinks the 100 best albums and songs are of the last decade? Check out the new issue. Frankly, lists like these never please anyone. Your favourites never seem included. Here’s what they chose as the Top 10 songs. What do you think of their choices?

10. “Stan“– Eminem

9. “Beautiful Day“–U2

8. “Rehab“–Amy Winehouse

7. “Maps“–Yeah Yeah Yeahs

6. “Seven Nation Army“–The White Stripes

5. “Paper Planes“–M.I.A.

4. “Hey Ya!”–Outkast

3. “Crazy In Love“–Beyonce

2. “99 Problems“–Jay-Z

1. “Crazy“–Gnarls Barkley

As for my top picks of the decade? Well, I haven’t turned my mind to that yet, but maybe I should. I’ll do my best to come up with a list of some of the songs that moved me over the last ten years. Will there be any Springsteen on that list? Hmmm…

Stay tuned.

Trevor Lawrence Jr. schools Em & Dre

It’s rare to find examples of good musicianship in rap/hip-hop beats. Too often beats are drab 4 or 8 bar loops with little or no progression, that serve as suitable backdrops for rhymes, but present very little of interest for more open-minded listeners.

Being a fan of Progressive Rock, Progressive Metal and Fusion bands such as Planet X, Liquid Tension Experiment, Ring Of Fire and others, I have a love of complex musical concepts, particularly odd time signatures and the shifting and manipulation of beats by drummers in such genres.

That’s why I was both surprised and delighted when I recently listened through Eminem’s Relapse. Though the album was mostly a disappointment, the closing track, Undergound, contains some very, very cool rhythmic metamorphosis that is both supremely impressive and – so far as I know – unprecedented in commercial rap. [To listen to the track, click here.]

Following the free-time intro, the anthemic chorus kicks in, ostensibly in 5/8. Brilliant! I have long waited for someone to rap in an odd time signature, not counting 3 of course, and now I was going to witness one of the most gifted rappers of all time do it. However, when the first verse hits, Em’s flow  is in 4/4 and seems disjointed, an out-of-place rhythmic hodge-podge. Naw.

At first I was disappointed, another opportunity to do something unique and potentially groundbreaking squandered, but after further scrutiny I realised the beat was far more complex than I had assumed. Though it sounds on first listen that the chorus is in 5/8 and the verse 4/4 – with perhaps a tempo change separating them, or some quavers dropped here and there – this is not at all the case. The beat is in fact 4/4 throughout – sitting somewhere around a comfortable 90 bpm – with the relatively simple drum loop remaining unchanged. The chorus, though it sounds like it’s in 5/8, is in fact comprised of sets of quaver quintuplets, the groupings of which begin on the ‘4 and’ of the last bar of the verse.

Yeah, I know right? Let me explain.

Below is an abstraction of the drum beat from the verse, (for non-drummers, from top to bottom the notes represent the hi-hat, snare and bass drum).

the drums, the drums

The bass, snare and hi-hat remain constant throughout the track, perpetuating the 4/4, with the vocals and strings shifting the beat and implying the 5/8. As mentioned above, the vocals and strings are quaver quintuplets – with each group of 5 notes distributed evenly into the space of 4 quavers – and the groupings begin, with the bass drum, on the final semiquaver beat of the previous bar. A picture will perhaps better demonstrate.

Below is the final bar of the first verse – at 01:38 – leading into the first three bars of the chorus, (apologies for my crude notation, my illegal version of Sibelius committed suicide).

Verse 1 into the chorus

The result is a brilliantly crafted, intelligent rap song, and once you get used to the jarring transition between the two feels, you can appreciate the true brilliance in the track’s composition, and enjoy Em’s dynamic flow and relatively strong rhymes.

Credit for this rhythmic ingenuity must either go to Trevor Lawrence Jr., a highly skilled drummer and prolific producer, or keyboardists Mark Batson and Dewaun Parker, three of the track’s five credited writers. My guess is that Lawrence was the mastermind behind it, as this is the sort of musical japery that skilled drummers revel in. Dr. Dre and Eminem on the other hand, though a brilliant producer and rapper respectively, are no musicians.

Eminem Is the Top Selling Artist of the Decade

With 32.2 million copies sold, Eminem leads the pack in overall album sales, followed by The Beatles with 30 million, according to Nielsen SoundScan, which releases its decade tabulations today. Data were tallied through Nov. 1, and though figures could rise through Dec. 31, they won’t alter the rankings.

The Beatles’ hits compilation 1 sold 11.5 million, edging ‘N Sync’s No Strings Attached, with 11.1 million. Eminem has two titles among the top 10 albums, 2000’s The Marshall Mathers LP at No. 4 with 10.2 million and 2002’s The Eminem Show at No. 5 with 9.8 million.

An early and roaring start paid off for The Beatles and ‘N Sync. Released Nov. 13, 2000, 1 sold 595,000 its first week, 662,000 the next and 1.3 million during Christmas week. It spent eight weeks atop the chart. No Strings, issued March 21, 2000, sold 2.4 million its first seven days, the biggest week in SoundScan history.

“When you get toward 11 million units, it has to be more than early momentum,” says Eric Weinberg, president of Nielsen Entertainment. “It needs to be good. What’s amazing about this industry is that we really never know what the numbers are going to be.”

Case in point: the unexpected mainstream success of St. Louis rapper Nelly, whose hit-laden 2000 debut Country Grammar is the 10th best-selling album, with 8.5 million copies. Norah Jones’ 2002 debut, Come Away With Me, was another surprise hit, boosted by five Grammys. It lands at No. 3 with 10.5 million.

And the winner is...

This year is almost over and an evaluation is almost inevitable. I sat and thought about the things I can evaluate and came to a conclusion that there are so many, I just can’t deal with this boredom I could cause you. I just couldn’t sleep at night if I had done the crime of wasting your time with the evaluation of my life. I mean, really, who cares what’s the best food I’ve eaten this year? Or the best daiquiri I’ve drunk? I wouldn’t. So, I’m just going to do what’s best for all of us and skip that awful part. So, followed by a really loud drumroll… Here’s the music “yeah’s” and music “no way’s” this year.

- “Sleep well” album of the year:

Norah Jones – The Fall. I would call it a “no way” if it wasn’t so plain and modest. It didn’t disturb my good night’s sleep at all, because I just didn’t notice it. So – here goes… an inconspicuous “yeah” for all of you insomniacs out there.

– “Two good singles” album of the year:

You won’t believe me on this one probably, but let’s face it – I Gotta Feeling and Boom Boom Pow were the only two good singles from this year’s Black Eyed Peas album The E.N.D. They were good, okay, they got us all moving and jumping up’n'down, but we all know it’s not enough. If I would rate singles, it would be a definite “yeah”, but for the album there’s a big, fat “noooo way”.

John Mayer - Battle Studies (c) Sony Music

– “Quite boring, but decent” album of the year:

John Mayer – The Battle Studies. And I’m really sorry to say this, John. Continuum is still the best thing you’ve created. You’re still gorgeous, I still love you, but I think the routine has hit the relationship. The good news is – you can still get back on the track. Who Says proves it. Anyhow – this is a “yeah”, despite all.

– “Jump-around-shake-your-arse-like-you-just-don’t-care” album of the year:

Jamie T – Kings & Queens. In comparison with Panic Prevention, this is a downhill, obviously, but it still holds the obvious charm of Jamie T and his own style. There were tracks I loved, there were mundane tracks, there were the weird ones as well. Maybe, as time goes by I will love the tracks I hated at first, as it was with Panic Prevention. A single I just can’t fly by and not mention in this case is Sticks’n'Stones – amazing, full of energy and an obvious success. So yeah, I do give it a “yeah”. And I still want to see him perform live. Preferably Sheila and Northern Line, though.

Jamie T - Kings & Queens (c) Virgin Records

– “It was good, but let’s not take this any further” album of the year:

Susan Boyle – I Dreamed A Dream. Well, this is just sad. Okay, it was great how she rocked Simon’s socks off at Britain’s Got Talent last year, but why, and this is a serious WHY, did she have to record an album, for God’s sake? And yeah, I know everyone has a right for their 15 minutes of fame, but didn’t hers tick out when she performed the third time of the song from Les Miserables? Oh well, but what do I know… Everyone, hurry to get your copy of copies!

– ALBUM OF THE YEAR. As simple as that.

Jamie Cullum – The Pursuit. I am convinced that a lot of people will listen to Jamie Cullum, the young boy (well, not so young anymore as he turned 30 this year) from Essex, in the future the way we listen to Frank Sinatra now. With honor, appreciation and admiration. Despite the critics who are on to Jamie about him “making the jazz pop-ish” I think that we are actually experiencing the birth (yes, and I’m sure he’s only in the early stages) of a legend. The first time I heard The Pursuit, I thought “Okay, not a lot of new stuff, but it’s decent at least. He hasn’t made the world’s best album, but he is still not breaking his own levels of mastery”. Then I heard it again, and again, and again… And I fell in love. I’m still listening to THe Pursuit every single day and it still gives me goose pumps. So “yeah”, this is a very loud “YEAH” for fabulous Jamie Cullum.

Jamie Cullum - The Pursuit (c) Universal Music

I’ve got some “yeah’s” to give to Dave Matthews Band for Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, Amerie for In Love & War, Mika for The Boy Who Knew Too Much, Arctic Monkeys for Humbug, Ida Maria for – Fortress Round My Heart, Royksopp for Junior and Muse for The Resistance. And some definite “no way’s” for Eminem – Relapse and some of the very unfortunate comeback attempts from The Backstreet Boys and Take That (YES, INDEED!)

2009: A Big Year for Sample-Based Music… and WhoSampled!

2009 was a phenomenal year for sample-based music. Looking at the list of U.S. number-one singles of 2009 to date, it’s astonishing to see that no less than 6 out of 13 are based on samples:

  • Crack a Bottle by Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent
  • Right Round by Flo Rida feat. Kesha
  • Poker Face by Lady Gaga
  • I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas
  • Whatcha Say by Jason Derulo
  • Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys

And that is only the tip of the iceberg – many of this year’s best-selling albums, and countless others, are heavily sample-based. We truly believe that the WhoSampled community is doing something important (and really fun!) by documenting, sharing and discussing all of this incredible activity, past and present.

We’ve quietly launched the site just over a year ago, and what a year it’s been! The database, which started with just a couple of hundred samples, has recently crossed the important 10,000 samples mark, and hundreds more are being added every week. It’s good timing to have a quick pause for breath and tell you a little bit more about what we’ve done so far.

  • We’ve been focusing hard on improving the moderation process to allow for all this incredible amount of contributions to be added efficiently to the database. We now have over 30 fantastic moderators from all over the world, who take care of processing everyone’s submissions – you can always see a list of our moderators on the About Us page
  • We’ve recently added cover songs to the site, and the response has been great – we already have thousands listed!
  • We added new buttons that allow you to easily share your finds on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace – you can find them on top of every sample, cover and artist page
  • We’ve added the option to browse the database by genre, meaning that if you only want to look at Hip-Hop or Electronic artists, you now can
  • We did a slight design facelift and added all sorts of small improvements across the site

For ongoing updates on what is happening on the site, make sure you become our fan on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. As always, we would be very happy to get your thoughts and suggestions on how we can improve, so please get in touch if you have any!

We’d like to thank all our moderators, contributors and visitors for making all of this happen. We all still have a lot to do of course, but we can definitely be proud of what we have achieved so far! Let’s tell the world about what we are doing, and spread the word!

50 Interview w/ Whoo Kid

50 Cent visited Shade 45 today (Nov. 28) to speak with Whoo Kid, Nelson (Gomez Bros.) & Reef about good reviews for Before I Self Destruct, the Beanie Sigel and Jay-Z beef, Eminem’s upcoming albums The Refill and Relapse 2, and more.

How did 50 Cent feel about Jay-Z’s comment at the American Music Awards? What did he think about Jennifer Lopez‘ fall during her AMA performance? Will 50 and Eminem be working together on a track again soon? Did Rick Ross’s people really try to contact 50’s ex? Why wasn’t 50 Cent at Diddy’s party? Do kids want 50 to grow up?

Eminem wants to be an X Factor Judge!!

The Sun (always a reliable source) revealed today that Hip Hop mega-star Eminem wants to be a judge on the X Factor. He is quoted as saying:

“No disrespect to the current judges but you need people who are global, platinum-selling stars. You need to prepare contestants for what it’s really like out there, and what sort of pressure you are going to be under.” “So much average talent comes out of these reality shows, it’s time to give people a chance who deserve it.

“A hip-hop star will never win a show like The X Factor without somebody like me on the panel.”

“There are a lot of very talented hip-hop stars who would kill for a break in Britain but the judges aren’t qualified in hip-hop.”I keep my eye on the urban scene in Britain and there is a lot of talent out there. It needs somebody in power to open a door for them.”

It’s great to see that Eminem is aware of the UK Urban Music scene to that extent and I personally think that Eminem would make a great X Factor judge - considering his scathing judgements on pop artists in the past, I think his comments would actually overshadow Simon Cowell’s. And if he was a judge on the show, at least Jedward would not have gotten away with those dreadful raps for so many weeks and Miss Frank might still be in the competition! Lets hope this one happens!

Eminem “Relapse: Refill” Due Dec. 21

Spotted at rapradar.com
Unfortanetly, it’s true.

The re-release of Eminem’s fifth studio album includes seven bonus tracks, including the single “Forever”, also featuring Drake, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne (previously found on the More Than A Game soundtrack), “Taking My Ball” (also released only with the DJ Hero video game), and five never-before-heard tracks. “I want to deliver more material for the fans this year like I originally planned” Eminem says. “Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year”.

If you are one of many people that have already purchased Relapse, this seems like a joke.

Sejarah Dibalik Izza Mathers III

Nama gw yang tertulis di akte kelahiran sebenernya riza rizkiawati tapi nama beken (emang beken??sejak kapan?) gw izza mathers III (baca: iza meters the third). Gw pake nama ini resminya sejak kelas 1 SMA (emang gw dulu sekolah???) hehehe…disaat musik rap sedang naik daun (uleeet kaleee). Apakah hubungannya nama izza mathers sama musik rap???ouh..tentu saja berhubungan, erat malah saking eratnya sampe susah dipisahin kayak perangko ama amplop, kayak idung ama upil, kayak pisang ama monyet, kayak kutu ama rambut…kayak gitulah kira-kira. Mau tau siapa dia…(hey..hey siapa dia..) yup he is Marshall Bruce Mathers III alias Eminem a.k.a Slim Shady. Mau tau kenapa gw pake nama dia…yah karena gw suka sama eminem donk kalau gw suka sama gogon nama famous jadi izza gogon donk hehehe.

Beyond The Beat - Bring Hell

Yes, friends, gather ’round, for it’s time to take a trip into my demented little brain and explore the motivation behind my latest 100% original track, “Bring Hell.”

Check it out:

Lyrics:

I’m kinda sick up in the head in case you can’t, tell
The things I say all indicate that I’ma need, help
Don’t try to stop or hold me back, I know y’all mean well,
But I’m here to bring hell, to bring hell, listen.
(Repeat)

I’ve got some stuff inside my brain that I’ve been dying to get out,
Sometimes I’m haunted by a demon up inside of my mouth
It makes me speak in tongues, I dunno what I’m talkin about
It makes me do, things at 4AM outside of your house

Like break and enter, find out where your children sleep,
And while they snore I’m pourin poison in the food that they eat
And before they die, they’ll learn about the way they were born,
I took their Disney DVDs and switched them out with your (porn),

Now take it back for a second, cuz I’m an addict I reckon,
To sayin things that piss you off and wanna get me, I’m beggin
Cuz more and more I’m gettin kinda reckless how I’m steppin
All the kids that beat me up, before I die I swear I’ll get em,

And it’s back to the basics, and I’m glad that you made it,
You’re just in time to see why we’re all so hated,
And by we of course I’m talking bout the kids like me,
The ones they always bullied, now they’re gettin pissed like me, because,

(Chorus)

I’m not unstable, but sometimes I act a little panicky
A mini Tyler Durden is in me, well actually,
It’s me, it’s me, it’s me! My name is Timmy wait a bit though,
Is there a possibility I’m going crazy schizo?!

Balloons are in the air and all the birds are going psycho
A man with three nipples blowing kisses at the sideshow
And if I’m crazy off to Lalalaland, here watch when I go,
And don’t you try to follow or I’ll make sure that you die slow

A razor in your nostril, I ain’t talkin bout the cell phone,
Push it deep and make you scream so loud they hear you yell, homes,
Sometimes I go quick and then sometimes I spit it slow, folks,
Reliable factors to take in account when you judge the insanity shown, so,

Don’t take this wrong, yo, but I’m kinda sad though,
I’m outta speed and lost my mind can’t bring me back, yo,
But what’s remainin in my blood makes me delirious
So I dedicate this song to all of you that take me serious-ly, hah!

(Chorus 2x)

While I normally deliver my raps as fast as I humanly can, this track took inspiration from a lot of different sources.

It’s fun every now and again to just relax and spit nice and slow, and focus on the content.  Eminem was a huge influence in this song, and I put my own twist on his exaggerating style to create the sound you hear.  After I finished writing the song and recording it, I noticed that the second verse also unintentionally bears some resemblance to Em’s delivery in ‘I’m Having a Relapse’.

Making the beat was lots of fun too.

When I name my beats, I usually write the first thing that comes to my mind.  If you listen, you’ll hear a really maniacal ’saw’ synth sound that makes up part of the chorus.  I happened to name this particular beat ’sawyourheadoff’ and the lyrics came naturally after that.

I really enjoyed making this song.  Much in the way that blowing people up in video games relieves stress, writing twisted evil lyrics does the same for me.

If you enjoyed the song and would like to download it, you can right below:

Thanks y’all!  Comment away, and as always, stay beautiful.

Born To Weed

  1. Lou Barlow – Bulletproof (La Roux)
  2. Datarock – Give It Up (Chateau Marmont Remix) ♥♥
  3. Jeffrey Lewis & Laura Marling – Brain Damage (Eminem)
  4. LCD Soundsystem – Bye Bye Bayou (Alan Vega)
  5. Girls With Moustaches - Moonchild(Born to Weed) ♥♥♥♥
  6. Robbie Williams - Do You Mind? ♥
  7. Crookers – Candy Candy (Feat. Teki Latex & BIG-O)
  8. Good Shoes – Wrong And Right
  9. Arctic Monkeys – Balaclava
  10. Fight Back The Heart Attack – Fight Back The Heart Attack ♥♥♥

About it.

Ps : Under Control
  9. OH OUI OH OUI!

The secret behind Kayne and Taylor Swift

Similar to Eminem was in on the whole Sacha Baron Cohen butt-in-the-face mess stunt and Balloon Boy flying across America. It’s been rumor since Kanye West snatch the mic from Taylor Swift, that it was a Hoax .

According to the source the exchange was arranged at Jay-Z request.  MTV execs reportedly asked Hov to perform at the awards show, and he said only if his lady, Beyonce, was made to look  good in the viewers eyes and was given a performance of her own.

A Jay-Z staffer stated:

This was all a huge publicity stunt set up by Jay-Z. MTV wanted him to perform at the end of the show and he said on one condition – they gave Beyonce a performance and made her look good. And so, the whole Taylor Swift fiasco was born. Jay called up Kanye and asked him to do it for him because Kanye doesn’t mind being seen as a jackass and it’d be believable if he did it. So when Beyonce let Taylor finish her speech instead of making her own speech, everyone thought “Wow, Beyonce really is a class act!” and Jay-Z finished off the show with his performance.

It’s old hat by now, but we’ve did our research and discovery some really fishy mess.

And what a coincidence that both Kanye West and Taylor Swift share the same talent agent, hmmmmm.

Video: All Three BET Cyphers from 2009 BET Hip-Hop Awards

Cypher #1 (Nikki Minaj, Buckshot, Crown Royyale, Joe Budden)

Cypher #2 (Nipsey Hustle, Wale, Gsan, KRS-One)

Cypher #3 (Mos Def, Black Thought, Eminem)

Above is all three cyphers from BET’s 2009 Hiphop Awards – all DJ’ed by none other that the GOAT DJ Premier. Out of all of the three, the 3rd cypher with Mos Def, Black Thought and Eminem was SICK!!!! All three killed it lyrically, showing that true lyricism still exists. Cypher 1, Buddens and surprisely Nikki Minaj were good. I say that about Nikki Minaj because from what I’ve heard from her its either been ok or sub-par. I love that KRS-One just still, still lyrically can out- freestyle cats and show why he’s a legend in the hiphop game.

Peep the videos and tell me who killed it.

And the Singer is... Jada Pinkett-Smith and Wicked Wisdom

Wicked Wisdom and lead singer Jada Pinkett-Smith

The 5’0, 38 year old black actress/producer/model/author and singer-songwriter Jada Pinkett-Smith is probably not what you think of when I say heavy metal, but sure enough, she is the lead singer of the rock band, Wicked Wisdom.

Wicked Wisdom is a heavy metal band, from what I can tell, composed of mostly black artists, yet you wouldn’t know it from the music.  Their musical style could easily be branded as “angry white people music” without drawing too many objections from even the most racially conscious critics.  You won’t see them on BET or at a black musical festival, but don’t be surprised however if you do see them banging their heads at Ozzfest.

The fact that there is a large disconnect between their racial identity and their intended audience has forced them to deal with issues that other rock bands don’t deal with as well as find strategies to give themselves a fighting chance at rock notoriety.  When slated to appear at the rock festival, Ozzfest in 2005, the group and festival received a large amount of threats and disapproving comments because the mainstream heavy metal scene was not ready to see a pre-dominantly black group enter their music community.  The organizers defended their choice and Wicked Wisdom went on to play to increasingly larger audiences, slowly gaining the respect of the rock music community.

After the tour, Jada said, “The first six shows were really rough. We had a steep learning curve. Those first few shows, the fans were brutal. By the time we got to show No. 7 the audience started to come around. By the end of the tour, during our last set, we had three mosh pits going while we were playing. The crowd was truly with us.”

Additionally, the race of the band has caused them to market themselves differently than other bands.  If you look at their music videos and website, you would have no idea that they are in fact a predominantly black band.  The images are chosen in such a way that promotes racial ambiguity so that people don’t have the chance to let their preconceived notions about race and music influence their reception of the music itself.

Wicked Wisdom – Bleed All Over Me

Wicked Wisdom is constantly fighting to prove that they belong and have paid their dues in order to be a legitimate rock band, in the same way that white artists like Eminem and Robin Thicke have had to prove their right to sing “black music.” These artists who have left the confines of traditional racial-musical categories have to work twice as hard and be twice as good as their opposite-race counterparts, which is an unfair yet harsh reality of racial identity and classification in this country.

Soul Amazin: MC Faceman Interview

When I was living in New York, I reached out to as many emcees as I can. My friend told me about an emcee from Brooklyn and here’s my interview with that emcee: MC Faceman.

Who is The MC Faceman?
I’m a hip-hop artist from Brooklyn bringin somethin new and fresh to the hip-hop scene. Under the chosen subgenre of Progressive Hip-Hop, I work hard to cover topics and styles not abundantly represented in hip-hop, whether under or above ground.

So tell me about your latest project?
Right now I’m working on the debut album for which I unfortunately don’t have a title to disclose at the moment. I actually have my next two projects more clearly outlined in my head since they are both concept projects. One is an EP which discusses the philosophical positives and negatives to Religion, War, Peace, and Money. The other is a 16 track mixtape, each track being 16 bars, about human drives.. but it’s all told in story form. I can’t say much more about these projects, but I can tell you they will be huge in terms of art despite not being full-fledged albums.

Break down your new project.
I haven’t put much deliberation into thematicizing my debut album. It’ll essentially be 16 brand new tracks and a few funny skits as well. I plan on exploring different personal, political, social, economic, and philosophical issues though.

How did you begin with rapping?
I started writin at age 12 in between NES, basketball, and stickball. I started recording in sophomore year of highschool as a way to vent.
Tell us about your origins and evolutions as a rapper. What are your earliest memories with music and when did you begin rapping?
I remember laying down on the floor in my living room next to my boom box and listening to hip-hop with a kid from the neighborhood. Listening to my first uncensored albums was a big thing for me as a kid.

Top five rappers dead or alive?
There’s too many to consider.. I’ll give a top five in no particular order.. Big Pun, Canibus, Nas, Eminem, and Jay-Z.

Take us through your creative process of making music, what do you think about?
Sometimes I have the idea for a song already in my head and I’ll look for a beat that can suit that topic well, and other times I just pick a beat I like and create a topic that goes with the feel of the beat. Delivery and flow always has to match the beat.

The legend goes that Biggie had to have fried chicken in the studio. What is unique about your studio experience?
I like to have peace, quiet, and solitude. I think better when I’m alone.

What are some of the musical elements outside of what most would define as Hip-Hop that have helped you build your craft?
I like the way progressive rock will vary their timing and flip around their melodies seemingly at random.. The song structure is sometimes so complex you have to hear it a few times just for it to make sense to you. This is how I felt when I first started listening to Dream Theater, a progressive band. While I don’t have the production skills (yet!) to replicate what they do instrumentally, I do have the ability to progress my lyrical content, flow, and delivery to bring forth a progressive equivalent of this to hip-hop.

So talk to us about 2009/2010. What can we expect from you?
2009/10 will see the projects I’ve already mentioned and hopefully some video projects. I’ve been brainstorming on how to do some music videos and even some skits. Hopefully I can get a site up to link all my content together and some more merchandise to help promote myself. So far available for purchase I have is a t-shirt and stickers.

Smack Talking of the Day: $ Cash Battle $

Facts of the BFG: Let's Do This

In 1985 or there close within, a young rapper named LL Cool J burst onto the scene with his fresh, innovative, and ultimately brash single, “Rock the Bells” under the label Def Jam. Who could possibly forget such classic lines as, “You bring the woodpecker, I will bring the wood”? Our favorite line from the single, however, would be that of, “I will battle anybody, I don’t care you tell…” And with such a boast, LL reigned supreme for years with Earl, the DJ whose hand was like a shark’s fin on the wheels of steel.

There has been enough smack talking from the likes of many platinum heavyweights to last a lifetime, and frankly, Universal Artists, International and Joe Stern-McGovern, global agent and President of the company, have decided it’s time to call all bluffs, to stop those who would deal from the bottom of the deck, to prove their own worth, and to reign supreme, just as their ancestor, LL Cool J, did in the mid-80s. With an eye towards cornering the rap market by somewhere around 2014, Universal Artists, International has announced to the world, “You think you can touch this, you talkin’ to me, well then let’s cash battle, sucker DJs”*.

Joe Stern-McGovern: A Challenge for Charity

Beginning January 2010, Universal Artists, International’s heavyweights, Black Flock Gang aka BFG from the self-titled smash CD, BFG, and their oft featured artists, Christian Levi and Ms. Kesha Lee, will set out on the road to battle all comers to prove their dominance in the highly competitive world market. Sucker DJs globally, be prepared to be shut down, to have your mama thoroughly disrespected, to bow your heads in shame, and to wipe those saline tears of miserable failure away as you have your proverbial asses handed to you Dirty South Style courtesy of the BFG.

DO: Ain't No Other

Is this a claim on behalf of the notorious, infamous, and supreme BFG that the South trumps east, west, and midwest? Certainly not. Why might one ask? Simply said, with the versatility of the BFG, they consider themselves masters of every variation, bringing due respect and paying homage to each in their own way. Not only will the Black Flock Gang break out in verse to make the hardest of the Eastern seaboard suffer whiplash, they will rock the richter scale until California falls off and into the ocean as the next largest island of the world. If they fail to show restraint, California might entirely become the next Atlantis.

Fans Awaiting the BFG Concert

Sucker DJs of every realm, bow down in reverence as the kings who came to save the game pass before your mortal eyes. You name the place, you name the date, you name the style, and watch yourselves stepped on like a petulant red ants on a picnic blanket. The BFG will demand nothing short of your full measure of respect. Show them a line and they will cross it in a minute. If you can see them, it’s too late to run.

The Honorable Hood Shuttlesworth

“Disciples of soul, godfathers of rap, our rhythm is down as your mama is whack,” claims Japan’s lead envoy for Universal Artists, International. Yes, the BFG have already made their way overseas and leveled the best the Japanese market has to offer in exhibition shows against some of the greatest styles in the manner of Ludacris, Lil’ Jon, Slim Thug, Ice Cube, and even the tattoed poet himself, Lil’ Wayne.

No one can bring the energy of the BFG, no one can match their verbal skills and delivery. The BFG will make a grown man cry to any of the numerous beats by Tiptonville, Tennessee’s own A-Dub, conqueror of crunk and his cohort, 731 joker of Lake County and pop’s answer to the age old question of the chicken and the egg, Lil’ J.

A-Dub & Lil' J: I Been On

Is this challenge by Joe Stern-McGovern of Universal Artists, International belligerent? Not at all, it simply underscores the supremacy and dominance of the BFG for any of the unenlightened, ill spoken, disrespectful, or simply “act a fool” MC. Like Hammer said in his time, “Can’t touch this,” and from the likes of Public Enemy, “Don’t believe the hype,” and Vanilla Ice…well, let’s not even go there…

In words of caution from those under the Shaka Productions camp in Birmingham, Alabama, “Man up, fool, check your D, because you’re ’bout to feel the fury of the BFG, B!”

In a quote from Joe Stern-McGovern, he summarizes his own take on the legends come to be publicly, collectively, and individually as the BFG,

“You cannot hold down the human spirit any easier than you can surpress the intellect. Give it some time, and it’s certain to rise to the surface and beyond your wildest dreamsn and expectations”.

When asked about the BFG and their lyrics, methods, and take on life, the company’s President, Joe Stern-McGovern, gave the following response,

“When I was a youth myself, we realized we were doing many sectors and slices of society a disservice, socially and politically speaking. These children were fed on the lies, corruption, and propaganda of forces supposedly larger than themselves, but they’ve risen, risen from the plumes with a message which won’t be swept beneath the carpet.”

Joe Stern-McGovern: President of Universal Artists, International

Joe Stern-McGovern continued to state,

“Their lyrics are a social commentary, a take on their lives in a society which has tried to mold them into what they wanted them to be, pawns and worker ants to the queen, but they have a message to send with their own take on the turn fate has handed them.

If the world, let alone any invidual has taken up issue with the BFG? In a quote from Joe Stern-McGovern,

“Society has made their bed, now they can lie in it. If the powers that be cannot deal with the indignance of the disenfranchised who refuse to be categorized or smothered by sweeping generalizations, let them do better next time, and try harder with future generations”.

Lo of the BFG: The Usual Suspect

In a quote from Joe Stern-McGovern,

“The dye is cast with this lot, and now society will face their full fury, as well as their sometimes poetically beautiful take on the human condition.”

In one word from one journalist, “Wow!”

The black flock gang has arrived, and will continue to reign supreme as long as they care to carry their message, and once having done so in a manner of haughty arrogance coupled with humility, the saviors of the hustle many call rap will pass on the torch to their own sons and daughters for millions to thrill to in future battles.

News: Eminem Uncovers "Relapse 2" Details, "Me & 50 Cent Did A Couple Of Records"

Eminem & 50 Cent

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

Eminem has broken his silence on the highly-anticipated Relapse 2 album and said fans should expect to hear 50 Cent on the project along with production from Just Blaze.

While not naming any song titles, Slim Shady said his collaboration with the G-Unit leader features them exchanging eight bars.

“Me and Fif did a couple of records, couple of months ago in Vegas, one song for my record and another for his,” Em revealed in an interview. “We just wanted to like, I just had an idea to like ‘Yo, why don’t we do something we ain’t done yet.’ And kinda go back and forth, we’ve kinda done it on other records but not to the extent of what we’re doing on this one…The way that it’s going now, K’Naan has two [produced] tracks on the record and Just Blaze has four, possibly five…I definitely feel like I’m in a little different space right now. I don’t know, with the last record, it felt like a lot of it had to do with me being sober…With Relapse 1 — a lot of that album, I wanted to rap at fire and do punchlines.” (Shade 45)

DJ Whoo Kid recently spoke about what rap heads should anticipate from Relapse 2 and promised a return of the “old” Slim Shady.

“What I really laughed at was the Mariah Carey [diss record],” Whoo Kid said in an interview. “That was funny. But that’s nothing compared to Relapse 2. What I heard, that’s just 2 percent [of the intensity]. Eminem from back in the day has returned. The crazy, lyrical, maniacal Eminem is back. Maniac! He was maniacal, but that was like, ‘Let me come back now. Let me get my sh*t situated. Who I gotta go at? Let me see what’s going on. Let me get comfortable.’ Now that he’s comfortable, now he’s gonna be like [a monster] in Relapse 2. Good luck, people.” (MTV)

Reports last week revealed Em going one-on-one with Whoo Kid to discuss the upcoming project.

Eminem will sit down with Shade 45’s DJ Whoo Kid on Saturday, October 3 at 3pm ET, during the G Unit Saturdays program, to go in-depth about his highly-anticipated upcoming album, Relapse 2, his performance at Voodoo Festival in New Orleans on October 30th and his role in developing the new video game DJ Hero, scheduled to be released on October 27th. (Sirius Buzz)

He will conduct another interview with Tony Touch next week in honor of his Shade 45 radio station’s five year anniversary.

Sirius announced today that it will broadcast two in-depth and uncensored interviews with Eminem on his Shade 45 channel in celebration of his channel’s fifth anniversary. Eminem will speak with Shade 45’s DJ Tony Touch as part of the Toca Tuesdays show on Tuesday, October 6 at 9:00 pm ET. Shade 45 is SIRIUS XM’s uncensored, commercial-free hip-hop channel created by Eminem, Shady Records, Interscope Records and SIRIUS. (PR Newswire)

Junge, Du bist ein ARSCHLOCH!! (Teil 2)

Several months ago, I started writing music video treatments for acclaimed director John Tucker aka “Dr. Teeth”. He is known for his ground-breaking producing work at BET and for directing several music videos for artists such as Lupe Fiasco, Ludacris, T.I., Lil’ Wayne, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Mike Jones, and many more.

One of our first projects together was a video for a new Dallas rapper on the scene, Dorrough. The song was “Ice Cream Paint Job”. Writing the video for Dr. Teeth was a pleasure and we created something we thought would be a different and fitting video for this new style Dorrough was bringing to the genre of music. When the video first hit MTV and BET, it was received with much enthusiasm and support, and steadily grew to a massive fan following of both the artist and our video.

Apparently it is so, because a few days ago I received word that the video was nominated for Best Hip Hop Video at the BET Hip Hop Awards 2009 that is taking place in Atlanta, GA on Oct. 27 later this year. I almost fell out of my chair when I heard the news. A video I wrote, nominated on a national awards show! I couldn’t believe it. Not only is the video nominated, it is going up against videos by Eminem, T.I., Jay-Z, and Kid Cudi. Some of the competing videos were directed by some of my favorite directors that I look up to and follow. That in itself is a mind-trip!

I can’t wait till the end of October comes around, because it looks like I’ll be flying over to ATL for the show! It’ll be a new experience for me. The next level! And of course, I’ll be taking you along for the ride.

I would like to thank all of you for your continuing support in my creative endeavors and for all the love I’ve received from my family, friends, and (I can finally begin to say this) fans of my work.

Here’s the link to the official BET Hip Hop Awards site:

Måndag

Hellu,

Listen to it @ Spotify!

I övrigt så deltog jag i min sjunde jäkla Voddler invite-tävling idag och fick ändå ingen invite.. Jag kämpar vidare. Min motivering i dagens tävling löd så här;

“Okey, since the blogpost is in english I will take this in the same language. As a lot of other visitors of this blog I am a person who loves movies. Since I’m a student buying movies reguraly is an expensive habit. Now I’m not saying that i download movies, because I don’t, but there’s alot of other students over the world who would rather put their money on other stuff than movies and instead of buying the movies they download it illegally from the web. If I would to get an invite I could show my friends a better alternative of wathching good movies and I won’t be having to chase for an invite almost everyday on the web nor having to put my money on bad movies since I would know which ones are worth buying.

Regards,
Dylan”

Hehe.

Mews - 9/24/09

Interesting music news this week…

- This Is It, the documentary of the prep/rehearsals for the late Michael Jackson’s London concert series, will be hitting theaters on October 28.  You can view the trailer here.  A double-disc soundtrack for the film will be released on October 27, and will contain a previously unreleased MJ single also called “This Is It.”  Billboard

- NYC’s Knitting Factory Records is set to release the full 45-album catalog of Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti for the first time ever in North America.  Kuti was the main influence in African political liberation art, and his music has always been difficult to find in the US.  The release also coincides with the Broadway debut of a Jay-Z and Will Smith funded musical about Kuti’s life and art.  Pitchfork

- Kids Company, a London charity for convicted minors and “disadvantaged youth,” just received a donation to the tune of 1.5 million dollars from Coldplay.  The band was apparently very moved by the efforts of the organization and stories of their impact.  The band members have even agreed to give music lessons to the Kids Company children.  Regardless of how you feel about Coldplay’s music, you have to dig the walking and not just talking.  NME

- The word is that Justin Timberlake has been cast in the lead role in a film about Facebook called The Social Network.  Timberlake will play Sean Parker, co-founder of Napster and FB’s first President.  Production for the film begins next month.  Allmusic Blog

- Yesterday was Bruce Springsteen’s 60th birthday.  My dad also turned 60 not too long ago, but Steve Sr. has never had a sliding collision with a Super Bowl Halftime Show stage camera.  Rollingstone

- Rapper Eminem is headed to court against the tech giant Apple Inc in a dispute over download permission on iTunes, despite three separate attempts to broker a settlement between the two parties.  Billboard

Eminem's music publisher looking to peel Apple in court

Apple, Inc. and Eight Mile Style, LLC, which publishes Detroit rapper Eminem’s music, are slated for a federal court trial this morning.

Settlement talks broke down yesterday on Eight Mile’s claim that Apple was not authorized to make 93 of the entertainer’s songs available for downloading on Apple’s iTunes service.

U.S. District Court Judge Anna Diggs Taylor will preside.

More from The Associated Press.

i want it all forever

One thing is for sure, Lebron is the man. Now I don’t know if they are trying to compare Drake to Lebron but the analogy doesn’t work. Drakes story is a pretty crazy one. No record contract but still have a tremendously popular song. Then record companies went nuts. I wouldn’t say he is the Lebron James of hip hop though. Girls just like the chorus’s. It is really good to have Eminem back though isn’t it. Angry white teenagers rejoice. Forever by Drake (feat. Kanye West, Lil Wayne & Eminem)

Ja Rule talks DMX and Eminem, plans to Reunite with Ashanti

Recently, Ja Rule was on his Twitter account discussing his preparation for the 2009 VH1 Hip Hop Honors. The show will honor his former label, Def Jam that is the reason that he is performing at the show. Rule’s “Always on Time,” was the most successful song in Def Jam history.

Also performing at the show will be DMX and Eminem, two of Ja Rule’s most bitter enemies. He talked about this on Twitter earlier. The message stated that he was excited about being on stage with X and Em, but he was obviously being sarcastic. He mentioned that he is coming to have a good time and that he is bringing his daughters. That does not mean that he is not ready, however.

Early last year, a record from Ja Rule called “Judas” was leaked to the internet. The song was perceived as a diss record to Ashanti and DMX. Then, earlier this year, Irv Gotti announced that he was going to drop her from Murder Inc. Records. Despite her issues with Gotti, Ja Rule still maintains that she is like a sister to him.

So, Ja Rule and Ashanti will be at the 2009 VH1 Hip Hop Honors and they will perform “Always on Time” and “Down 4 U.”

Drake ft Kanye West, Lil Wayne & Eminem-"Forever"

The music video for “Forever” leaked today. You probably recall hearing verses from Drake, Ye, Lil Wayne and Eminem. Critics are saying this is set to be one of the best collabs to date, and has created a lot of hype around the song, along with purpose the song is suppose to serve. The video was directed by Hype Williams, and is compiled of all the artist mentioned above. There are also clips from the LeBron James documentary “More Than A Game“, which is set to release Oct.2,2009. This is just one of the songs off the soundtrack, which means it only gets better from here.

Eminem’s Acceptance Speech For Best Hip Hop Video- 09 MTV VMA's

Eminem won the MTV Video Music Award for best hip-hop video Sunday night for his song “We Made You.” “Wow. This is crazy,” Eminem said as he took the stage to collect his moon-man trophy. “I want to just say thank you to the fans, first and foremost, for sticking by me this whole time.” Then thanks his team, Peter Rosenberg (Manager/Business Partner), Shady Records, etc.

Eminem then proceeds to dedicate the award to lifetime friend, right hand man, D12 member- Proof, whom was fatally shot back in April of 2006. Eminem’s first performance on MTV, (since Proofs’ passing) wasn’t until earlier this year at The MTV Movie Awards. Kid Cudi’s DJ AM tribute song follows Em’s Acceptance Speech.

Did Mariah Just Call Eminem Petite?

Yes, she did.

While promoting her film Precious at the Toronto International Film Festival Mariah was asked about her “performance as Eminem” in the “Obsessed” video. Mariah responded, “I was not him. That had blonde hair. I wasn’t petite.” I think she just called him “that” too.

In another recent interview on French radio Mariah said, “I don’t know that is,” when asked about Shady.

And Em’s uber gross diss song? “…I don’t know if somebody wants to write their little songs. I haven’t heard them on the radio, I don’t know what’s going on with that,” MC quipped.

I doubt she’ll be asked about Eminem when she appears on Oprah today to show off the fabulous throwback hair, perform, and promote Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.
